Chakana

The Chakana – a symbol we carry on from our Incan ancestors. A representation of the universe and all of the life it holds.

Each step on the cross symbolizes something different. Generally the four main points represent the four directions, the four elements (earth, air, water, fire), the four seasons etc. Each of the three steps between each cardinal point has meaning as well – the lower world (the underworld), the middle world (where humans live) and the upper world (the world of the stars, gods and celestial beings); and the animals that guard each of these worlds respectively – serpent, jaguar and condor. These are just some of the meanings as there are many more and can vary from community to community.

To me, the Chakana represents 𝘢𝘺𝘯𝘪 – right relationship, harmony and balance – something I strive for in my everyday life.

Measurements: ~11.75 cm from top of hook to bottom of earring.
